Many vices are associated with the presence of poor living conditions in our societies. However, there are cartain checks that can be introduced to reduce the adverse effects of the underprivileged in the community (Fergusson,2000). Her mum is having a battle with her landlord, Mrs. Kwon whom she hasnt paid rent for months now. Horace and his family are struggling to pay their rent since her mum is a nurses aide whose pay is way little to afford a decent life. Myelisha and Jamar are good examples of children struggling to make ends meet for their families at school by selling candy which is against school rules (Fergusson, 2000). They represent racial poverty which seems to be leaning more on the black community. This ultimately affects their studies and also the risk of being put into juvenile prisons for selling item s containing drugs. Racial and class differences with their fellow white students are apparent. Racial stigmatization among the blacks as poor, inferior and dangerous is a common phenomenon that parents have decided to address by advising their children on how to deal with it. Terrence parents are teaching him to work hard to be the best and also avoid conflict with authorities.The importance of friendship among the black community is inevitable in helping them get moral support in public. Lamar and Ken are on the right track in finding a group of friends to provide them with a support system that will help them deal with issues affecting them (Fergusson, 2000). These organizations offer a negotiation support in public in case they get themselves in trouble. Moreover, some black parents are isolating their children from getting involved in bad behaviour. This is through restricting their movements and the type of friends they keep to avoid them being influenced by peer pressure.
